There's been a lot of talk about Apple possibly being immune from the worldwide economic downturn, particularly after they announced their best-ever quarterly profit at the end of January.

A new study by analyst firm Piper Jaffray says that there’s more to their profits than meets the eye, explaining that Mac computers are selling at a 20 per cent lower rate than in late 2008.

It's not that Apple is doing that badly, as the company is still selling an average of 28 Mac computers, 22 iPhones and 50 iPods a day through each of its US retail stores. But if we compare those numbers to November 2008, we find that Apple sold 36 Mac computers per day and 28 iPhones.

This seems to indicate that potential buyers are putting that shiny new MacBook on hold or possibly going with a cheaper, Windows-based alternative. Something that Microsoft is shamelessly trying to push with its latest ads, showing how you just don't get enough for your money with Macs.

Even though Apple just announced record first quarter profits, this development will surely raise a few eyebrows in the boardroom. Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) menaikkan tingkat peringatan waspada flu babi dari level 3 ke level 4, hanya 2 tingkat sebelum peringatan tahap wabah penuh.

Wakil Direktur WHO Dr Keiji Fukuda mengatakan, peningkatan ini menunjukkan "langkah signifikan ke arah situasi wabah influenza, tapi kita belum sampai ke sana".

Meksiko sebelumnya menyatakan, 149 orang tewas akibat flu babi meski hanya 20 kasus yang sudah dikonfirmasi. Sementara di sejumlah negara lain, kasus flu babi yang terjadi lebih sedikit muncul di AS, Kanada, Spanyol, dan Inggris.

Keputusan WHO untuk meningkatkan level waspada ke tingkat 4 terjadi setelah berlangsung pertemuan para pakar, dimajukan sehari karena keprihatinan wabah makin mengganas.

Level 4 berarti virus telah menunjukkan kemampuan untuk bertahan dan hinggap dari manusia ke manusia, dan mampu menyebabkan pecahnya wabah dalam satu komunitas. "Apa yang bisa diartikan dari situasi ini adalah adanya langkah signifikan menuju pandemi influenza. Namun juga, satu fase dimana kita belum sampai disana," kata Fukuda.

Dia menekankan para pakar tidak menganjurkan adanya penutupan perbatasan atau pembatasan perjalanan. "Dengan meluasnya virus ini... menutup perbatasan atau membatasi perjalanan berdampak sangat kecil dalam upaya menghentikan pergerakan virus," demikian Fukuda.

Vaksin flu babi pertama bisa disiapkan dalam tempo empat sampai enam bulan, namun perlu beberapa bulan untuk memproduksinya dalam kuantitas banyak. Menurut para pakar kesehatan, virus ini muncul dari jenis yang sama dengan yang biasanya menyerang manusia secara musiman. Namun versi virus yang baru dideteksi mengandung materi genetis yang mirip dengan jenis yang biasa menyerang babi dan unggas.

Sebelumnya, Menteri Kesehatan Meksiko Jose Angel Cordova menyatakan, diduga korban tewas akibat flu babi telah meningkat dari 100 menjadi 149 orang. Dari jumlah tersebut, 20 kasus dipastikan merupakan flu babi.

Korban yang meninggal berusia 20 sampai 50 tahun. Infeksi pada kaum dewasa-muda merupakan karakteristik pascapandemi. "Kami berada pada saat menentukan dari krisis ini, jumlah korban tewas akan terus meningkat," kata Codova dalam sebuah jumpa pers.

Dia mengatakan, kasus pertama yang diduga merupakan flu babi terjadi di selatan negara bagian Oaxaca. Hampir 2.000 orang dirawat di rumah sakit sejak kasus pertama flu babi dilaporkan 13 April, namun separuhnya sudah diizinkan pulang. Sekolah seluruh Meksiko ditutup sampai 6 Mei di tengah upaya negeri itu mengatasi wabah ini.

Sistem perdagangan BEI mengalami gangguan yang berakibat terjadinya "suspen trading". BEI sedang melakukan analisa penyebab terjadinya gangguan tersebut dan sedang dicari solusinya agar sistem dapat segera berfungsi kembali.Menurut Sumber dari Detik menginformasikan :

Kerusakan sistem transaksi di Bursa Efek Indonesia ternyata cukup serius. Error yang terjadi di JATS-NextG ikut merusak Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) alias sistem backup BEI. Akibatnya, BEI tidak bisa menyalakan sistem back up.

"Mekanisme sistem backup itu kan mirroring. Jadi jika data pada sistem utama terganggu, otomatis ikut mengganggu sistem back up. Jadi DRC tidak bisa kami hidupkan," ujar Direktur Teknologi dan Informasi BEI, Bastian Purnama saat dihubungi detikFinance, Kamis (23/4/2009).

Bastian mengakui bahwa ada kemungkinan gangguan sistem perdagangan PT Trimegah Securities Tbk (TRIM) Kamis pagi, melebar hingga mengganggu sistem JATS-NextG pada pukul 14.26.51 waktu JATS.

"Kelihatannya gangguan pada Trimegah tadi pagi melebar hingga ke semua sistem. Jadi ada kelebihan permintaan yang terus menerus masuk hingga mengganggu seluruh sistem JATS," ujar Bastian.

Kendati demikian, Bastian belum bisa memastikan apakah JATS-NextG akan dihentikan hingga penutupan perdagangan hari ini atau tidak.

"Kalau keburu, ya bisa kita buka lagi nanti. Sekarang sedang kita cek," ujar Bastian.

Broker di salah satu perusahaan sekuritas mengungkapkan rusaknya sistem di BEI memang karena ada ledakan order dari Trimegah.

"Gara-gara Trimegah split order kebanyakan jadi sistemnya kepenuhan order. Ilustrasinya dia order 1 juta lot tapi pakai order 200 ribu kali berarti order 10 lot tapi 100 ribu kali," kata broker tersebut.

Jakarta - Kebijakan KPU yang menetapkan masa kampanye Pemilu 2009 selama 9 bulan dinilai tidak efektif. Kampanye berdurasi panjang rawan terjadi penyalahgunaan jabatan dan fasilitas publik.

"Kampanye dipastikan akan melibatkan incumbent. Ini memungkinkan adanya penggunaan jabatan termasuk fasilitas publik yag dimiliki pejabat itu, " ujar pengamat politik dari Universitas Airlangga Kacung Marijan.
Dia menyatakan itu dalam diskusi 'Kampanye Pemilu 2009 Berdurasi Panjang' di Menara Eksekutif, Jl MH Thamrin, Jakarta Pusat, Jumat (23/5/2008).
Menurut Kacung, kampanye yang ditetapkan sejak 8 Juli 2008 hingga 1 April 2009, juga dapat memecah konsentrasi para calon incumbent.
"Konsentrasi para anggota DPR dan DPRD tidak hanya pada kerjanya saja melainkan terhadap kampanye," jelas Kacung.
Untuk itu Kacung menyarankan agar kampanye bagi pejabat incumbent hanya diperbolehkan pada hari libur atau cuti.
"Perlu diatur misalnya pejabat publik hanya diperbolehkan kampanye pada hari libur atau ada cuti selama 9 bulan," pungkas dia.
